PROGRAMMES

YOUTH LIVELIHOOD INITIATIVES FOR ENHANCED ECONOMIC INCLUSION AND PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE

Silatech in partnership with the UNHCR provides youth refugees, returnees, and Internally Displaced Persons, with sustainable livelihood opportunities.

This program aims to help 7,200 young men and women aged 18-35 find or create job opportunities, especially in the construction and service sectors.

They have the option to participate in vocational skills training, small-scale business and entrepreneurial skills training and good agriculture practices. The programme also supports the establishment of business hubs and two coexistence centres that act as one stop shops for information sharing, learning and social development in the community.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP, DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

This programme is implemented by Silatech and the American Refugee Committee to provide jobs for young people in Kismayo, Somalia’s third largest city. The programme provides young returnees from displacement camps in neighboring countries with financial support. The small grants enable them to start their own businesses and contribute to the development of their communities.

YOUTH AND WOMEN MICRO-ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME

Silatech’s Partnership with Qatar Fund for Development, has allowed it to expand its existing relationship with Kaah Islamic Microfinance Services by establishing a fund for loan capital to support micro-enterprise projects in Somalia. The programme aims to finance 10,000 young men and women’s enterprises and create 16,000 jobs.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT FOR FARMERS

This programme is implemented in partnership with the Horn Progress Initiative, a not-for-profit organization in Mogadishu. This effort helps 15,0000 young people, 7,500 Somali youth are trained as farmers. They receive training in climate smart agricultural practices and in reducing reliance on rain-fed agriculture and they in turn will train and employ the other half of the group on long term, part time or seasonal contracts.

UNIVERSITY GRADUATE PLACEMENT PROGRAMME

This programme was designed in cooperation with Silatech and the Somali Institute for Development and Research Analysis (SIDRA). It plans to train and place 9,000 Somali men and women aged 18-35 in jobs, over the course of three years.

FISHERMEN'S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

The partnership between Silatech and Yustan Food Processing will build the capacity of Somali youth by teaching them fishery skills using the latest technological advances. More than 2,000 youth are expected to have employment opportunities under this programme.
